Project Project

Completely organic improvised collaboration.

The group did not start with any predefined personnel or instruments, or any conscious goals pertaining to the sounds it produces. The way an improvisation sounded was completely dependent on who and what was around at the chosen time and place. For the better part of a year the group remained completely nameless. The name ?Project Project? was reluctantly chosen before the group?s only previous public performance at The Winery.

Over time, patterns emerged based upon the interplay of the players - evasive timings; dissonant melodies; repetition to climax; the leaving of space for solos that should never be played...

This evening Project Project is the anti-title to describe the collective of Fiona Bennett (amplified recorders), Jen Kwok (bass, effects), Cameron Street (reverb tray, effects) and Scott Sinclair (guitar, samplers).

Sinclair and Kwok had previously played together in the short-lived instrumental rock/noise/fusion outfit ?Scheme?, before meeting with both Bennett and Street after their respective 2002 Small Black Box appearances. As Fiona Bennett completes her brief sojourn from her new Melbourne home, this Small Black Box seems the perfect outlet for the group to continue its undefined, unthemed, unstructured, and (almost) unnamed improvisations.
