Information

How are performances selected?
Performances are selected on merit. Proposals are used to determine an artists' suitability for performances. Your proposal should contain sufficient relevant information to enable an assessment to be made.
As an Equal Opportunity event the Small Black Box has regard for the Racial Discrimination Act 1975, Sex Discrimination Act 1984, Disability Discrimination Act 1992, and the Human Rights Commission Act 1981 when selecting artists.

What happens when I submit my proposal?
Your proposal will be considered in conjunction with those of other applicants and an order of merit determined. Further information, where time permits and is required, will be conducted by Small Black Box. Where time permits you will be advised of the outcome of your proposal.

How long is my proposal valid?
Proposals are valid for a period of twelve months from the date of receipt by Small Black Box.

If I change my email or other details after a proposal?
Your proposal will be retained on file under the email which you forwarded your completed proposal. If you change any details it is in your interests to advise Small Black Box of your updated contact details.

What happens if I am selected for a performance?
If your application is successful you will be sent a formal invitation of performance by email. The invitation of performance will specify the performance time and date, artist fees, performance duration, venue, and any other information requiring confirmation. Technical requirements will be discussed close to the performance date.

The aim of Small Black Box is to present new/experimental music and sound art to as wide an audience as possible. We welcome your interest. If you are thinking of putting in a submission, please consider attending Small Black Box. There you can meet the organising committee, see how Small Black Box events are run and above all you can support your fellow artists.

Small Black Box is a not for profit event run by volunteers. All revenue from ticket sales helps Small Black Box to continue to present and promote Australian experimental music and sound arts.

Promotional material
Please email a 3 paragraph biography and press photo for promotional use to info@smallblackbox.com.au

Performance fees
Artists whose proposals are selected for inclusion in Small Black Box will be paid a once-only fee of $75 unless otherwise advised. There is also a CD stall of selected artists each month.

Promotion
Small Black Box reserves the right to use an audio or visual excerpt of the artists' performance in order to promote both Small Black Box events and the artists. In such cases, Small Black Box will take all reasonable care to ensure that the artist and performance are duly and correctly acknowledged.

Return of material
Promotional material can only be returned if the cost of return postage is included. If you wish to have your material returned, please include a money order for AUD$7.

Copyright
Copyright of the performance remains with the artist/creator. Copyright of the event, title, program and notes remain with Small Black Box.

Liability
- The artist agrees to obtain all rights, permissions and clearances in respect to the performance necessary for the application of the proposal.
- The artist agrees that the performance contains no libelous or scandalous material
- The artist assumes liability for any extraordinary performance techniques or actions that could be construed as threatening to the safety of the audience or the artist, and so causing damage, injury or loss.
