HEDKIKR

Australian duo HEDKIKR bring together a unique blend of maximalist composition, electronics, interactive video and intense improvisation. Since its formation in May 2001 the duo has played at The Knitting Factory (NYC), the DC International Dance+ Improv Festival, WhatisMusic? Festival and MIUC (VIC), The NowNow Festival (NSW), Make-it-Now (QLD), the Bienalle of Electronic Art Perth (BEAP), the Totally Huge Festival, Sound Spectrum (WA) and Club Zho (WA) and in 2002 completed an eight-city tour of the USA.

HEDKIKR have worked closely with the Tissue Culture and Art Group at SymbioticA in Perth creating a number of ?Score-films? that use endoscopic and biological images as a visual stimulus and analogy for improvisation. The duo also regularly performs with a dancer using the MIBURI MIDI JUMP SUIT to manipulating interactive sound and video and have developed an innovative body of work combining notated and improvised music.

What they said about HEDKIKR:

Using a MIBURI jumpsuit, free jazz, scissor-quick-step dance moves, endoscopic views of a saxophone and other items whose "guts" were on display for all, HEDKIKR truly left a mark on the audience, who later flooded the band as well as myself with questions, comments, and pleas for a future appearance of this stellar trio.
Gina Renzi: The Rotunda, Philadelphia

...a fascinating marriage of jazz composition, guided improvisation and forward looking useage of technology/video as a total sensory experience. Grand in scope and ambition, but successful on all levels.
Keenan Lawler: Artspace, Louisville

nothing short of amazing...the freshness was breathtaking...a potent and powerful musical reflection, capable of being simultaneously challenging and accessible.
Joseph Waters: San Diego State University, San Diego
